I sometimes wish Kinja had an unrecommend feature because, frankly, some replies deserve it. I suppose I should also be careful what I wish for if a bunch of my posts get unrecommended - but I'd be willing to pay that price.

You can dismiss comments with the x. Other than that it's the internet so you can just ignore the junk.

Can't we only dismiss comments to our own comments?
I think the problem with Kinja is that we end up with no way of "starring" people who make good contributions these days.

I think there's a bit of an issue with the current system here in that it sort of makes it hard to filter out the wheat from the chaff. I mean, reddit is worse because you get bullshit trendy stuff floating to the top, but... I dunno. I miss stars.
It's kind of hard, though, since most of these systems have limitations in how much you can keep out the crazy.

Yes that's right, only replies to your comments or posts. There's no thumbs down like on youtube.

Wait, those comments on YouTube are by people ?! And here I thought they were autogenerated by a horrible parody of humanity.
But yeah, no thumbs-down on here means that conversation moderation really comes down to the OP, which has ups and downs I suppose.

Yes, youtube is a mess, a backed up cesspool rotting in 120 degree heat is cleaner and more pleasant than the comment section on youtube. Everybody's an expert and a genius over there and if you actually do know what you're talking about you're an idiot, a moron, and a whole host of other less than pleasant things. I completely ignore the comment section at all costs.

I noticed recently that Youtube comments are hidden by default for me.
I haven't tried to change that. ;-)
